North Bay, ON

Rooted in North Bay, Ontario, Canadore College has built a strong reputation for career-focused education, experiential learning, and innovation that extends well beyond the classroom. With distinctive strengths in aviation, health and wellness, skilled trades, advanced manufacturing, and mining-related technology development, the College brings together education, applied research, and industry partnerships to address real-world challenges, prepare graduates for in-demand careers, and support regional economic growth.

Canadore’s home, North Bay, is a vibrant, welcoming city set between Lake Nipissing and Trout Lake. It offers the amenities of a regional hub alongside year-round outdoor living, from the waterfront and beaches to trails and lakes in every direction. North Bay is about three and a half hours’ drive from both Toronto and Ottawa, with air service through North Bay Jack Garland Airport, making it easy to stay connected to Ontario’s major centres while enjoying the quality of life that Northern Ontario is known for.

Canadore is equally recognized for its commitment to Indigenous education, community engagement, and creating meaningful opportunities for learners from diverse backgrounds. Through its innovative programs, specialized research facilities, and close connections with industry and community partners, Canadore continues to play an important role in developing talent, advancing innovation, and strengthening the communities it serves.

Canadore College is seeking an accomplished and innovative academic leader to serve as its Vice-President, Academic and Research. This integrated portfolio presents a compelling opportunity to strengthen the connection between academic programming and applied research, creating an environment where excellence in teaching, learning, and innovation reinforce one another. The successful candidate will shape an ambitious academic and research agenda that responds to evolving workforce needs, expands opportunities for students and faculty, and strengthens the College’s partnerships with industry and those it serves.

Reporting to the President and CEO and serving as a key member of the senior executive team, the Vice-President will provide strategic leadership for Canadore's academic portfolio, championing academic quality and relevance, student success, and a sustainable, labour market-responsive mix of programs and credentials. The successful candidate will lead academic planning and renewal, foster excellence in teaching and learning, and advance flexible educational pathways. A central priority will be guiding the thoughtful integration of artificial intelligence, emerging technologies, and innovative delivery models into academic programming and operations.

In parallel, the Vice-President will also lead the College's research strategy, strengthening applied research, industry partnerships, and opportunities for faculty and students to contribute to innovation and regional economic development. Working collaboratively across the institution, the Vice-President will oversee significant academic resources, support evidence-informed planning and organizational change, and build strong relationships with faculty, staff, union partners, government, Indigenous communities, industry, and other educational institutions.

The ideal candidate is a respected and collaborative academic leader with progressive senior leadership experience in postsecondary education and a demonstrated ability to lead academic transformation in a complex environment. They will bring strong financial and operational judgement, experience advancing academic quality and program innovation, an understanding of applied research and external partnerships, and the ability to inspire confidence and build consensus through change. Digital fluency, an appreciation for the opportunities and implications of artificial intelligence, and experience working in a unionized environment will be important assets. A graduate degree in a relevant discipline is required; a doctoral degree is preferred. A commitment to reconciliation, equity, inclusion, access and belonging will be key to success.

This is an opportunity for a visionary and pragmatic leader to help position Canadore College for continued academic excellence, innovation, and long-term sustainability while making a meaningful contribution to the students, industries, and communities it serves.
