The Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers (AHAM) represents manufacturers of major, portable, floor care home appliances and suppliers to the industry with the mission of serving the home appliance industry while delivering value to consumers through leadership, education and advocacy. AHAM’s membership includes over 150 companies throughout the world. In Canada, AHAM members employ thousands of people and produce more than 95% of the household appliances shipped for sale. The economic impact of these products is nearly $6 billion annually. The home appliance industry, through its products and innovation, is essential to consumer lifestyle, health, safety and convenience. AHAM’s head office is situated in Washington, DC with a Canadian office in Ottawa, Ontario.
Reporting to President & CEO in Washington, DC, the Vice President, Government Affairs & Managing Director, Canada will be based in Ottawa and serve as the senior-most government relations representative in Canada. This role is responsible for overseeing advocacy strategies across federal and provincial jurisdictions, serving as liaison to the AHAM Canada Council, and managing the day-to-day operations of the Canadian office.
The ideal candidate brings a minimum of 15 years of progressive experience in government relations, public policy, or regulatory affairs, gained in a trade association, government relations consultancy, or relevant government body. They possess a deep understanding of Canada’s political and regulatory landscape and have demonstrated success influencing policy through direct engagement with elected officials, ministries, and senior public servants. A skilled communicator and strategic thinker, the candidate will have experience managing advocacy initiatives, representing organizations in policy discussions, and delivering clear, compelling positions on complex regulatory matters. Eligibility to register as a lobbyist in Canada, provincially and federally, is required.
