The Faculty of Education at UVic is dedicated to advancing transformative learning, research, and community engagement that contribute to equitable and sustainable educational systems. Through innovative, cohort-based and practice-focused programs; impactful, interdisciplinary research; and strong partnerships with schools, communities, and organizations – including the delivery of teacher education at the newly-opened John Horgan campus in Langford – the Faculty prepares educators, community practitioners, researchers, and leaders who shape learning environments locally and globally through scholarship and practice.


During an exciting time of growth, the University of Victoria seeks its next Dean of the Faculty of Education. Reporting to the Vice-President Academic and Provost, the Dean will provide strategic, collaborative, and inspirational leadership to the Faculty. The Dean will guide the Faculty’s academic mission, strengthening excellence in research, teaching, and community engagement while fostering a culture of inclusion, innovation, and collaboration. Working closely with faculty, staff, students, alumni, and external partners, the Dean will advance the Faculty’s reputation and impact through strategic partnerships, research development, and program innovation. With a demonstrated track record in equity, diversity, inclusion, and reconciliation, the Dean will play a key role in advancing Indigenization, decolonization, and anti-oppressive practices in education while positioning the Faculty to address emerging challenges and opportunities in education locally, nationally, and globally.


The successful candidate will hold a doctorate in a relevant discipline and be eligible for appointment as a full professor (associate professors nearing promotion will also be considered). They will be a distinguished academic and administrative leader with a record of scholarly achievement, experience in strategic and financial leadership, and demonstrated success engaging diverse internal and external stakeholders. A demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, reconciliation, and community engagement is essential. The ideal candidate will bring vision, integrity, and the ability to inspire collaboration and excellence among faculty, staff, students, and partners while fostering a shared sense of purpose and impact.
