Project Engineer, Athabasca Oil Corporation

Athabasca Oil Corporation ("AOC") is a liquids-weighted intermediate producer with exposure to Canada’s premier resource plays (Oil Sands, Duvernay). AOC’s strategy is focused on maximizing cash flow per share growth through investing in high margin projects and executing on return of capital initiatives. The Company has long term growth optionality across a deep inventory of high-quality Thermal Oil projects and flexible Duvernay development opportunities. This balanced portfolio provides shareholders with differentiated exposure to liquids weighted production and significant long reserve life assets.

Athabasca currently produces ~40,000 boe/d with a significant growth program underway. Athabasca has exposure to Canada’s premier resource plays. Thermal Oil boasts >1 billion barrels of top quartile reserves and a deep inventory of future projects. In addition, Athabasca’s private subsidiary company Duvernay Energy Corporation is a unique standalone self-funded entity that offers investors pure-play exposure to the Kaybob Duvernay play and is expected to grow to over 15,000 bbl/d by 2030. Strategically Athabasca has two companies with independent strategies and capital allocation frameworks.

AOC has positioned itself with strong financial liquidity of ~$445 million (including $316 million in cash), putting it in an enviable position relative to its peers. The company is resilient to commodity price volatility and is expecting to generate ~$1.1 Billion of free cash flow over the next five years, while funding its growth initiatives. All free cash flow is currently returned to shareholders in the form of share buybacks. The combination of production growth and reduced share count is resulting in cash flow per share growth. The corporate strategy is to continue to grow our assets, generate significant free cash and provide superior returns to shareholders over the long term. Sustainability is core to the business with strong governance and a commitment to reducing emissions through its technology roadmap.

Athabasca has a track record of transformative projects including JV’s, M&A, royalties, and unique marketing arrangements. AOC offers a dynamic and exciting work environment for the right candidate. AOC is publicly traded on the TSX under the symbol “ATH” with a market capitalization of $5.7 Billion.

We are currently recruiting for a Project Engineer to join its Projects team and contribute to the successful delivery of capital projects across AOC's thermal steam-assisted gravity drainage (SAGD) operations. Reporting to the Director of Projects, this role offers the opportunity to gain broad exposure to the full project lifecycle, from front-end engineering and design (FEED) and execution planning through detailed engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning. Working within a multidisciplinary environment and alongside internal and external engineering teams, the Project Engineer will play an important role in advancing projects safely and efficiently while helping deliver key objectives related to safety, environmental performance, cost, schedule, and scope.

This position is based in Calgary, with moderate travel to project locations.
